Look to absolute returns

by Paul
(London, England)

I'm a firm believer that you get what you aim for. With that in mind, I have been reading a lot about hedge funds.

I'm not about to become a hedge fund manager, but the idea of absolute returns is fascinating. It is so different to the normal relative measurement of returns in a fund or portfolio. Being able to get a return no matter where the markets may go is an excellent idea and more managers should be targeting this.

There must be a way to balance a portfolio so that profits can be made in all sorts of directions of market. Clearly, being 'fleet of foot' with money is vital. I need to get thinking about how I can use this idea for my own ends and portfolio.
